This eight-night coastal voyage is a relaxed, adults-only way to see the West Coast without driving it. Brilliant Lady leaves Vancouver on September 10, 2027, sails south to San Francisco, then works down the California coast to Santa Barbara, San Diego and Catalina Island before arriving in Los Angeles on September 18. Early autumn is often one of California’s best seasons, with warm, clear days after the summer fog has eased.

San Francisco is the big-city highlight. Sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge is a moment worth being on deck for, and the day can include Alcatraz, cable cars, Chinatown or the Ferry Building food stalls. Santa Barbara is quieter and very pretty, with Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, State Street’s shops and cafes, the historic Old Mission and wine-tasting rooms close to the waterfront.

San Diego offers Balboa Park’s museums and gardens, the Gaslamp Quarter and an easy waterfront to explore on foot. Catalina Island is a favorite final stop. Avalon is a small, walkable town known for its round Casino building, golf carts in place of most cars and clear water for snorkeling or kayaking. Vancouver itself is worth an extra night before sailing, with Stanley Park and Granville Island close to the cruise terminal.

Brilliant Lady brings Virgin’s adults-only, design-led style to this coast, with a range of included restaurants rather than a single main dining room. Fares include Wi-Fi, gratuities, basic drinks and group fitness classes, while spa, premium drinks and excursions are extra. On a port-heavy itinerary like this, many of our clients explore independently, and we are happy to suggest where an organized tour really adds value.

This sailing pairs well with the Alaska voyage that ends in Vancouver the same morning, if you want a longer trip. Reach out and we will price either option and check availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a passport for a cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles?
Yes, you should have a valid passport because the cruise starts in Canada and ends in the United States. Requirements depend on your citizenship, and we will confirm what your group needs.

What is California weather like in mid-September?
Mid-September is usually warm and sunny along the Southern California coast, and San Francisco often has some of its clearest weather of the year. Mornings can still be cool, so bring a light jacket.

Can I combine this sailing with Virgin’s Alaska cruise?
Yes. The Seattle to Vancouver Alaska voyage on Brilliant Lady ends on September 10, the day this sailing departs, so the two can be booked back to back. Ask us to check availability on both.
