This 16-night voyage suits history lovers who want to connect ancient civilizations across two continents in one trip. Seven Seas Mariner begins with two days in Lima on March 10, 2027, travels north along the Pacific coast of Peru, Ecuador and Costa Rica to Panama, then continues through the western Caribbean to Miami on March 26. March is generally a dry, sunny month on the Pacific side of Central America.

The two-day start in Lima gives you time for the city’s colonial center and its well-regarded food scene. Machu Picchu itself is far inland, so seeing it means flying to Cusco and continuing by rail, usually as a pre-cruise extension or a land program the line may offer. Salaverry is the port for Trujillo, near Chan Chan, the vast adobe city of the Chimú people. In Ecuador, Guayaquil has a long riverside promenade, and Manta is close to Montecristi, where the toquilla straw hats known as Panama hats are woven.

Panama City gets an overnight, with the restored Casco Viejo quarter and the Miraflores Locks visitor center for watching ships in the canal. On the Caribbean side, Puerto Limón leads to Costa Rica’s rainforest and wildlife, and Roatán in Honduras is known for reef snorkeling and diving. The Mayan part of the title comes alive at the end: Harvest Caye in southern Belize and Costa Maya in Mexico both offer access to Mayan archaeological sites, such as Chacchoben near Costa Maya.

Seven Seas Mariner is an all-suite ship from Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a line known for including a great deal in its fares. Most fares cover shore excursions, fine wines and spirits, specialty dining, prepaid gratuities and Wi-Fi, and many also bundle round-trip air. Five sea days break up a port-rich itinerary. Before you book, we will walk you through exactly what your particular fare includes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you visit Machu Picchu on a cruise from Lima?
Yes, but it takes planning, because Machu Picchu is reached by flying from Lima to Cusco and then traveling by train. Most travelers do it as a multi-night extension before the cruise, and we can help arrange it.

Where can I see Mayan ruins on this cruise?
The final calls in Harvest Caye, Belize, and Costa Maya, Mexico, both offer excursions to Mayan sites, including Chacchoben near Costa Maya. Excursion offerings change from season to season, so we will check what is available for this sailing.

What is the weather like in Central America in March?
March is part of the dry season on the Pacific side of Panama and Costa Rica, with hot, mostly sunny days. The Caribbean coast can see showers at any time of year, so a light rain jacket is useful.
