Gold Rush Legacy is a one-week Alaska cruise for travelers who want glaciers, frontier history and wildlife in a compact, comfortable package. Seven Seas Explorer departs Whittier, south of Anchorage, on June 2, 2027, cruises to Hubbard Glacier, calls at four classic Southeast Alaska towns and ends in Vancouver on June 9. Early June brings very long daylight hours and the start of the main summer season.

Hubbard Glacier is one of the largest tidewater glaciers in North America, and on a clear day the ship’s approach to its ice face is a highlight of the week. Sitka has a layered past as the onetime capital of Russian America, visible in St. Michael’s Cathedral, and Sitka National Historical Park is known for its totem poles set along a forest trail.

Skagway is the heart of the voyage’s gold rush theme. The town was a gateway for prospectors heading to the Klondike in the late 1890s, and the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad still climbs the route they took. Juneau, Alaska’s capital, can only be reached by sea or air and is close to Mendenhall Glacier. Ketchikan finishes the Alaska portion with its waterfront Creek Street, totem poles and salmon streams. A final sea day brings you down the coast of British Columbia to Vancouver.

Seven Seas Explorer is an all-suite ship from Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a line known for spacious accommodations and an inclusive fare. In most cases the fare covers shore excursions, fine wines and spirits, specialty dining, prepaid gratuities and Wi-Fi, with round-trip air included on many fares. That can make a one-way Alaska trip simpler to plan. Fare types differ, so we will check what yours includes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get to Whittier for an Alaska cruise?
Whittier is roughly 60 miles from Anchorage and is reached by road through a long, single-lane tunnel shared with the railroad, or by train. Most travelers fly into Anchorage, and we can help you arrange the transfer and a pre-cruise night.

Do I need a passport for an Alaska cruise that ends in Vancouver?
Because this cruise ends in Canada, we strongly recommend a valid passport, and it is required if you fly home from Vancouver. Requirements depend on your citizenship, so we will confirm the right documents for you.

What is the weather like in Alaska in early June?
Expect cool to mild temperatures, very long days and changeable weather, with rain possible at any time. Layers, a waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes are the best plan.
