Canary Island Immersion is a 7-night round trip from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria aboard World Navigator, departing April 7, 2028 and returning April 14. It suits travelers who want a week of mild spring weather, volcanic landscapes and outdoor time in a part of Spain that many Americans haven’t explored. With five islands and two overnights, the pace is unhurried.
San Sebastián de La Gomera is a small port where Christopher Columbus made his last stop before crossing the Atlantic in 1492. Inland, Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects rare laurel forest, and the island’s whistled language, Silbo Gomero, is recognized by UNESCO as well. Santa Cruz de La Palma has a well-kept colonial center with wooden balconies, and La Palma is known for dark night skies and its mountaintop observatories.
In Tenerife, an overnight leaves time to visit Teide National Park, where Mount Teide is Spain’s highest peak, and still enjoy an evening in Santa Cruz. Puerto de La Estaca is the port for El Hierro, the smallest and least-visited of the main islands and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The voyage finishes with an overnight in Las Palmas, whose historic Vegueta quarter and Las Canteras beach are worth a final wander.
World Navigator is one of Atlas Ocean Voyages’ small luxury ships, a good fit for smaller harbors like La Estaca. Atlas fares generally include beverages, gratuities and Wi-Fi, and life on board is relaxed rather than formal. We’ll confirm which inclusions apply to your fare.
This is a lovely spring week on its own, or paired with time in mainland Spain. Let us know your dates and cabin preferences and we’ll look up current fares and availability for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the weather like in the Canary Islands in April?
April is typically mild and sunny, with comfortable daytime temperatures. Higher elevations such as Mount Teide can be much cooler, so bring a warm layer for excursions.
Do I need a passport for a Canary Islands cruise?
Yes. The Canary Islands are part of Spain and the Schengen Area, and requirements depend on your citizenship, so we’ll confirm the current entry rules for you.
How do I get to Las Palmas for the cruise?
Gran Canaria’s airport connects through major European hubs such as Madrid. We suggest arriving a day early, and we can help arrange flights and a hotel.
