A transatlantic crossing is a different kind of vacation, and this 14-night voyage on Valiant Lady is a good fit for adults who love slow days at sea and want to arrive in Europe rested. You leave Miami on April 16, 2028, cross the Atlantic to the Azores, continue to Madeira and Morocco, and end in Barcelona on April 30. Much of the first week is spent at sea, a stretch many of our clients come to love for its reading, spa time and long dinners.
Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, is the first landfall after the crossing. The island is green and volcanic, with the twin crater lakes of Sete Cidades, hot springs around Furnas and Europe’s only tea plantations close by. Funchal, Madeira’s capital, is known for its flower gardens, fortified Madeira wine, the toboggan ride down from Monte and walking trails along the island’s old irrigation channels, the levadas.
Tangier puts you on the African coast at the entrance to the Mediterranean. Its medina and kasbah, the Caves of Hercules and views across the Strait of Gibraltar make for a rich day, ideally with a guide. Barcelona is a fitting finale. Plan a few days before flying home to see the Sagrada Família, the Gothic Quarter, Park Güell and the city’s markets and tapas bars.
Valiant Lady is a modern Virgin ship with the brand’s adults-only, design-led style, so there is plenty to do on sea days, from fitness classes to live entertainment. Restaurants, Wi-Fi, gratuities, basic drinks and group fitness are included in the fare. Specialty cocktails, spa treatments and excursions are extra. On a long crossing, the included Wi-Fi and dining make a real difference to the overall value.
Tell us how long you would like to stay in Spain afterward, and we will price the cruise, arrange Barcelona hotels and look for any current Virgin offers.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sea days are on a transatlantic cruise from Miami to Barcelona?
With 14 nights and three ports before Barcelona, most of the voyage is at sea, including a long run of consecutive sea days while crossing to the Azores. Expect a slow, restful pace.
Is the Atlantic rough in April?
Spring crossings can bring some swells, and conditions vary from day to day. Modern ships are stabilized, but if you are prone to seasickness, we can suggest a midship cabin on a lower deck.
Do I need a passport for a transatlantic cruise to Spain and Morocco?
Yes, you will need a valid passport, and Europe’s travel authorization rules may apply depending on your citizenship and timing. We will confirm current requirements for Portugal, Spain and Morocco before you go.
