This seven-night Explora I voyage is ideal for travelers who want a summer getaway in January and a taste of three South American countries. It departs Rio de Janeiro on January 4, 2028, follows Brazil’s green, island-dotted coast south, crosses to Uruguay and ends with an overnight in Buenos Aires on January 11. January is high summer in the Southern Hemisphere, with warm beach weather.
Rio de Janeiro is worth a few extra days, whether for Sugarloaf Mountain, the Christ the Redeemer statue or the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Paraty, a colonial town of whitewashed buildings and cobblestone lanes, sits between the Atlantic rainforest and a bay full of islands. Ilhabela, a largely protected island off São Paulo state, is known for waterfalls, forest trails and beaches.
Porto Belo, in Santa Catarina, offers calm bays and a quieter side of Brazil’s southern coast. Punta del Este, Uruguay’s best-known resort town, is famous for its sculpture of a hand emerging from the sand and for nearby Casapueblo. The overnight in Buenos Aires gives you an evening for a tango show and a parrilla dinner, plus time for neighborhoods like San Telmo and Recoleta.
Explora I was the first ship of Explora Journeys, the MSC Group’s luxury line. Every suite has an ocean view and a private terrace, and the ship’s style feels more like a boutique hotel than a typical cruise. Most fares include beverages, Wi-Fi, gratuities and most dining, though we’ll confirm what your fare covers.
We can help with hotel nights in Rio or Buenos Aires and with flights between the two countries. Send us your preferences and we’ll come back with fares and availability for this sailing.
